Daytime Emmy Awards, Winners and Red Carpet Fashions – What’s Hot and What’s Trending 17 June 2013

70-year old Britt Ekland in low cut sequin top at Emmy AwardsDaytime Emmy Awards, Winners and Red Carpet Fashions – the big winner at this year’s Daytime Emmy Awards was long running NBC soap Days of Our Lives.

The soap, which started in 1965, beat off strong competition from last year’s winner General Hospital and the strongly fancied The Bold and the Beautiful to take the top prize for the first time since 1978.

Star Wars fans will be delighted that George Lucas picked up an Emmy (his first) for his animated tv series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The presentation was something of a reunion as he was handed the Emmy by none other than Princess Leia herself, Carrie Fisher.

The award show, which came from the Beverly Hilton Hotel, also provided another award for former Doctor Who David Tennant who took home the prize for Outstanding Performer in an Animated Show for his role voicing the   part of the droid Huyang.

The award ceremony did not run as smoothly as the organisers would have hoped as when presenter Aisha Tyler opened the envelope to find out the winner of the Best Talk Show – Informative category she was left looking at a name that wasn’t even in that category. She managed to make light of the whole thing and she was quickly handed the correct envelope to reveal the actual winner as The Dr Oz Show.

Taylor Armstrong in see-through top at Emmy AwardsAnother slight blip occurred when Corbin Bernsen (L.A. Law, Psych and General Hospital) was heard swearing twice during the In Memoriam tribute section of the evening. This was even more surprising considering his mother, Jeanne Cooper from The Young and the Restless, who died in May this year, was one of those being honoured.

Things look to be back on track for Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne who were seen on the red carpet holding hands and sharing a kiss. A big improvement on things a few weeks ago when they were living in different houses.

On the fashion front there were lots of examples of nude fabrics, LBDs and plenty of cleavage on show, much of it from ladies of a certain age.

Bucking the LBD trend was former Bond girl 70-year old Britt Ekland who wore a flattering long white outfit with a low-cut sequinned top.

Some of the evening’s most daring outfits came from Elizabeth Hendrickson (All My Children and The Young and the Restless) who wore a light pastel outfit which had a dramatic plunge front slashed to the stomach, and tv Chef Giada De Laurentiis whose version of the LBD provided a major cleavage show.

Opinion was divided on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Taylor Armstrong who wore a revealing outfit that featured a bra top with see-through sections. Armstrong was hoping to put on a good show for any tv execs who might be watching as she is reportedly in the firing line for the next series of the reality show.

Nigella Lawson “Attacked” By Husband In Public – What’s Hot and What’s Trending 16 June 2013

Nigella Lawson in low-cut scarlet Billion Dollar Baby dress on The Taste.Nigella Lawson “Attacked” By Husband In Public – there has been much shock today as pictures have been published showing Nigella’s husband,  Charles Saatchi, with his hands around her neck.

Top tv chef and writer Nigella and her husband were having a meal at Scott’s seafood restaurant to celebrate Saatchi’s 70th birthday when they appeared to get into an argument. They were sitting at their usual outside table at the favourite celebrity restaurant in Mayfair as Charles likes to smoke.

Pictures have been released in today’s Sunday People showing Saatchi with his hands round Nigella’s throat and one of the pictures also appears to show him holding her nose with one hand whilst his other hand is around her throat.

Nigella has spoken before about how the two have a fiery relationship and very different personalities. Nigella describes herself as a ‘festerer’ while she describes her husband Charles as an ‘exploder.’

A witness described the row to the People: “It was utterly shocking to watch… It was horrific really. She was very tearful and was constantly dabbing her eyes. Nigella was very, very upset.”

Nigella was seen to try to calm the situation by leaning over and kissing her husband but this does not seem to have worked as the couple shortly after left the restaurant in separate cars.

The couple live in a £12m luxury home in Chelsea and after the photos appeared in the press this morning Saatchi was seen leaving the house on his own before Nigella left later in a taxi. Her 17-year old son Bruno (by first husband, the late Sunday Times journalist John Diamond) was seen leaving with her, after he had first put a suitcase in the back of the taxi.

Scotland Yard is said to be looking to “establish the facts” behind the couple’s altercation and in an official statement the Metropolitan Police stated they had not received a complaint with regard to the incident but would now look into it after the report and photos were published in the press.

The official Scotland Yard statement said: “Officers from the Community Safety Unit at Westminster are aware of the Sunday People article. Enquiries are in hand to establish the facts of the incident.”

Nigella has spoken before about how Saatchi is not a fan of her food, saying that he would prefer a bowl of cereal to proper food. Looks like the lovely Nigella is wasted doesn’t it?

There has been no official word as yet from either Nigella Lawson or Charles Saatchi about the incident.

Voice Finalists Leah McFall, Mike Ward, Andrea Begley, Matt Henry – What’s Hot and What’s Trending 15 June 2013

Leah McFall

Voice Finalists Leah McFall, Mike Ward, Andrea Begley, Matt Henry – tonight saw the live semi-final of The Voice and there were some close calls to make from the 4 judges teams.

Most people would rate Will.i.am’s team as possibly the strongest of the four this year and things weren’t made easy for the voting public as Leah had a less strong performance than last week and Cleo Higgins had what was easily her best week of the whole series.

Having said that it was the right decision to put Leah through to next week’s final after her performances over the last few weeks. There are many people who believe that she is a real find for the show and her highly individual performances of Minnie Ripperton’s Lovin’ You and Gloria Gaynor’s I Will Survive, show a real talent for making difficult and iconic songs her own.

Mike Ward

The Minnie Ripperton song has notes in it that only dogs can hear and the Gloria Gaynor song has become a karaoke classic but both sounded fresh and new in Leah’s hands. Last week’s iTunes release of I Will Survive got to Number 3 in the charts and quickly became The Voice’s biggest hit easily outshining last year’s winner Leanne Mitchell’s earlier release of Run To You, which only made it to Number 45. Prior to Leah’s release the highest position any act from The Voice had reached was Tyler James’ Single Tear which got to Number 28 last year.

The other singer who seems destined for big things this year is country singer Mike Ward. He manages to combine an authentic sounding American country voice with good looks and modesty and even if things don’t work out here we think he could make a great career for himself in the US. Although he beat Joseph Apostol in the public vote there is still a small audience for country music in the UK.

The 2 hour live final of The Voice can be seen on BBC1 next Saturday starting at 7.15 pm.

Check out that brilliant version of I Will Survive by Leah Mcfall from last week’s show below

Naomi Watt Diana Photos – What’s Hot and What’s Trending 14 June 2013

Naomi Watts as Princess Diana in Vanity Fair photo from new biopic movieNaomi Watt Diana Photos – new movie stills photos have been released today showing actress Naomi Watts looking exactly like the late Princess Diana.

As well as the new still photos from the movie there has also been a 1 minute trailer released showing snippets from the upcoming film including scenes showing her battles with press photographers and also her relationship with Dr Hasnat Khan, who is played in the movie by Naveen Andrews.

The photos released show Naomi as Princess Di on the infamous Panorama programme where she talked about her marriage to Prince Charles. However the most striking photo is from a recreation of her photo session with Mario Testino for Vanity Fair. These photos were published just a few weeks before her death in a car crash in Paris in 1997.

Although Naomi strikes the same look as Diana in her photo she is actually wearing a completely different colour dress. In the original Vanity Fair photos Princess Di was wearing a creamy white coloured dress but Naomi is shown wearing a black sequinned dress in the movie stills.

As you would expect the photos are all very classy and stylish and not at all revealing. This is a change from some of Naomi’s earlier movies as she has been known to be either topless or completely nude in many of her earlier film roles. These have included movies such as Mother and Child, 21 Grams, Ellie Parker and her role in the classic 2001 David Lynch movie Mulholland Drive.

The main theme of the new biopic deals with Princess Di’s relationship with Dr Hasnat Khan, the highly respected heart and lung surgeon. During her lifetime Diana managed to keep the relationship out of the press but Khan was always frightened that the press intrusion would make his life hell.

Diana was said to have revealed to her friends that the Dr was the real love of her life.

The new Diana movie, directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel (Downfall), is due to hit UK cinemas 20 September this year although there is still no date given yet for a US release.

You can catch the official Diana movie trailer below.

Sandra Bullock at The Heat Premiere – What’s Hot and What’s Trending 13 June 2013

Stylish from the front

Stylish from the front

Sandra Bullock at The Heat Premiere – the 48-year old actress looked super stylish from the front on the red carpet for the premiere of her new movie The Heat but it all went a bit wrong when we saw her from behind.

Bullock wore a stylish Victoria Beckham designed black maxi dress to tonight’s premiere at the Curzon Mayfair in London. She matched it with a belt and a great pair of black gladiator style heels. She looked great but then spoilt it all by turning to the crowd and revealing a black bra showing at the back of her outfit.

Now if she didn’t feel comfortable wearing this outfit without wearing a bra we would suggest that she goes for something a little less daring next time she is on the red carpet.

The Oscar-winning actress plays the part of FBI Special Agent Sarah Ashburn in the new comedy movie. Her character in the movie has to team up with an uncouth Boston policewoman played by Bridesmaids star Melissa McCarthy in order to capture a Russian drug baron.

Oops, not from behind

Oops, not from behind

As well as talk of the new movie there is a lot of speculation that Sandra is in talks to play the part of Miss Hannigan in the remake of Annie the musical.

The Annie remake is being produced by Will Smith and Jay-Z and Jamie Foxx, another Oscar winner (Ray), is thought to be in talks to play the Daddy Warbucks role. To add the whole Oscar thing the title role of Annie seems to have gone to the 9-year old Quvenzhane Wallis who became the youngest person ever to be nominated for an Oscar when she received the honour for her role as Hushpuppy in the 2012 movie Beasts of the Southern Wild.

The Heat, which is directed by Paul Feig (Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Bridesmaids) is set to open in the UK on  31 July and will hit US cinemas on 28 June.

Emma Watson in black minidress at The Bling Ring premiere at The Paris TheatreEmma Watson in Plunging Black Dress and Claire Julien in Nude Dress at Bling Ring Premiere – the 23-year old actress looked very stylish as she attended the New York premiere of her new movie The Bling Ring.

Emma wore a black minidress with a plunging neckline and teamed it with a pair of striped black heels. She added a touch of old style Hollywood with her slicked back hairstyle which showed off her features.

Despite talking recently about how she feels uncomfortable with her fame she looked very much at home on the red carpet, happily posing for the large number of assembled photographers.

Emma has previously said of her thoughts on fame: “the better I do, the more my feeling of inadequacy actually increases, because I’m just going: ‘Any moment, someone’s going to find out I’m a total fraud, and that I don’t deserve any of what I’ve achieved.”

…”sometimes I’ve felt a little constrained by that idea of who I’m meant to be.”

Claire Julien in nude dress at Bling Ring premiereWell however she feels inside she certainly seemed comfortable enough at Tuesday night’s premiere as she posed for the cameras and smiled as she talked with the waiting fans at Manhattan’s Paris Theatre on West 58th St. The movie theatre is a stylish single screen operation that is known for showing art-house and foreign movies.

Joining Emma on the red carpet were the other members of The Bling Ring cast Taissa Farmiga, Katie Chang and Claire Julien. Taissa wore a black lace dress, Katie chose a green outfit with a black leather jacket whilst Claire wore a fitted nude chiffon dress matched with a pair of exotic looking platform heels.

Also attending were the film’s director Sofia Coppola as well as a number of celebrity attendees including fashion designer Anna Sui, Steven Tyler, Mickey Sumner, Audrey Gelman, Laura Love and Elementary star Jonny Lee Miller.

The Bling Ring opens in major movie theatres in the US this Friday (June 14) although we will have to wait until the 5 July before the movie opens here in the UK.
