Beach Boys – the legendary US band has announced a UK date amongst its worldwide 50th Anniversary Tour.

All the surviving band members, Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston and David Marks are already touring the US together for the first time in over 20 years. They will be performing in the UK at Wembley Arena on 28 September.

The American shows have received great reviews with the concerts lasting over 2.5 hours and featuring more than 40 songs from throughout the band’s career which began in 1961. The shows even featured video footage of Brian Wilson’s 2 late brothers Carl and Dennis which the remaining band members joined in with.

The Beach Boys are responsible for a number of classic hits including Good Vibrations, God Only Knows, Sloop John B, California Girls and Fun Fun Fun and are known for a style of music that celebrates summer, the beach and surfing. In fact their music has often been described as surf rock.

The Beach Boys have achieved huge record sales during their career as well as much critical acclaim. Their 1966 album Pet Sounds is regularly cited as one of the top albums of all time. Much like The Beatles’ Sgt Pepper the album was influenced by the psychedelic drugs of the time. Brian Wilson in particular was responsible for the album’s lush sounds, large orchestral arrangements and deeply emotional songs.

It was probably Pet Sounds and 1967′s Smile that were most responsible for Brian Wilson’s reputation as a musical genius. Indeed he is often spoken of in the same breath as Lennon and McCartney. Sadly his creative output was somewhat reduced over the years by his troubles with drugs and mental health problems.

The group is to release a new studio album, their 29th, on 04 June this year. The album, entitled That’s Why God Made The Radio, will be the first for many years to feature all of the surviving members and is produced by Brian Wilson, with executive production by Mike Love.

Tickets for the Beach Boys Wembley concert will go on sale at 9am this Friday 01 June.

Glamour Women of the Year Awards – the main winner on the night was Kylie Minogue who took the Outstanding Contribution Award.

The event was held at Berkeley Square Gardens in London and featured many stars from the US as well as the UK and obviously Australia too. The evening was hosted by Graeme Norton and featured just about every name we have written about over the last few months.

Jessie J took the Best Solo Artist Award which was the first award given out on the night. She has won a lot of new fans after her recent appearances as a judge and mentor on The Voice.  She was wearing a black flapper style outfit from Julien Macdonald and received her award from fellow judge Will.i.am.

We then shifted to the other side of the pond for the Comedy Actress of the Year Award which was won by Sofia Vergara for her role as Gloria on ABC’s Modern Family. She was wearing a classic red evening gown from Zac Posen which showed off her curvy figure.

ITV’s X Factor had a couple of winners on the night with former judge Kelly Rowland rather surprisingly winning the TV Personality of the Year Award and Amanda Holden getting the Theatre Actress of the Year Award for her part as Princess Fiona in the musical Shrek.

The full list of award winners for the evening is:

Amy Childs – the former TOWIE star is to have a second boob job at just 21-years old.

Amy has said that she wants to have her breasts enlarged from her current size of 32C to 32 DD. She says that she feels that her breasts are now too saggy and she wants to go back to feeling pert again.

Speaking to new! Amy said that her breasts had now dropped: “When I first got them done, they were up here [points to underneath her chin]. They were so nice and pert.

Now they’re just really saggy and heavy. They give me backache too.”

In terms of size, she said: “I’ve had all my consultations now and decided on a 32DD.”

Amy has even more focus now on her breasts as she has been the face of Ultimo’s Bra Queen range for Tesco. Ultimo founder Michelle Mone, who is one of Carol Vorderman’s best friends, said of the new range that it provided “a great value lingerie range without compromising on quality”

Since leaving TOWIE Amy has been working on a career as a model and tv personality. As well as appearing on Celebrity Big Brother Amy has also had her own reality tv show on Channel 5.

Earlier this month Amy launched her new hair vajazzle range whilst appearing topless in a nude jewelled catsuit.

With her forays into reality television, various business interests and multiple boob jobs it seems that Amy is hell-bent on following the Katie Price career path. She is already the richest of the TOWIE group with a fortune of around £1.5m last year which has surely increased further with this year’s modelling and business ventures.

Nicole Scherzinger – the singer has been confirmed as the next uest judge to join the X Factor panel.

The X Factor official Twitter page said earlier today: ”The gorgeous @NicoleScherzy will be Guest Judge at tomorrow’s auditions. (Which start at 11am, punctuality fans).”

The former Pussycat Doll will be following in the footsteps of Geri Halliwell and Rita Ora as a guest judge and it seems that she is already the favourite one of the three to get the job on a full-time basis. Geri Halliwell doesn’t seem to have gone down that well with either the X Factor audience or her fellow jidges. Even Gary Barlow wo normally tries to see the good side of most of his colleagues said of Geri’s performance: “I don’t think the audience liked her. She got booed. I like Geri, I’ve known her for years, she’s got a good energy but I don’t know if she should be on the panel, to be honest.”

Rita Ora seems to have done a great job in her stint as a guest judge on the panel but it is thought that she is not a big enough name to get the judging job full-time. She also has some commitments that could interfere with filming as she is currently touring with Coldplay.

Nicole has appeared on the show before in 2010 when she stood in for Cheryl Cole who was suffering from malaria. She also famously got Cheryl’s job when she left X Factor USA after a very short while with the show.

Nicole said of today’s news: ”Super excited to be back in London for @TheXFactor! Can’t wait to find more unique and interesting talent! Last time I was here we found One Direction and I can’t wait to find more unique and interesting talent here in the UK.”

It may not yet be settled for Nicole however as Leona Lewis is also standing in as a guest judge and a lot of people think she might get the permanent job due to her close links with X Factor boss Simon Cowell.

Best British Albums of the past 60 years – Iron Maiden’s heavy metal classic “The Number of the Beast” has topped a new poll from HMV.

The music and film retailer ran the Diamond Jubilee Poll after surveying around 55k of their customers over their thoughts on the best British album of the last 60 years. Almost 10% of those asked named the 1982 Iron Maiden album amongst their top choices.

It is less surprising to see that The Beatles were the most popular choice in the Top 10 albums with Adele’s 21 being the only current album to feature in the list. Both of the top 2 spots were something of a surprise with 2nd place in the list going to Depeche Mode’s 1990 album Violator.

Iron Maiden were clearly delighted to have topped the poll and their lead singer Bruce Dickinson said: ”We’re astonished and delighted to hear The Number of the Beast has been named number one in HMV’s Diamond Jubilee survey for the greatest British album category.

Some of the most influential and classic albums from the past 60 years were in the running so it’s a testament to our incredibly loyal and ever-supportive fans who voted for us.

Iron Maiden is a proudly British band, so to win this category as voted for by the British public, in Jubilee year, is very special. Thank you to all our wonderful fans!”

The Top 20 Best British Albums of the last 60 years as voted for in the HMV poll are:

Amour – the Michael Haneke film has won the Palme d’Or at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

It is the 2nd time that Haneke has won the top prize at the festival as he won back in 2009 with his movie The White Ribbon, a film set in a small German village before the outbreak of the First World War.

Amour (Love) is basically the story of a couple aged in their 80′s who are dealing with the prospect of death in their lives. Although Haneke has been known for shocking scenes in his movies Amour is an altogether gentler affair. After receiving the award Haneke said that Amour was a very personal movie to him as he has had to deal with a similar situation in his own family as that which he had portrayed in the film.

The movie has had some powerful responses from the Cannes audiences with people leaving screenings in tears after watching the film, which is set almost entirely in a small Paris apartment. A lot of credit has been given to the 2 main actors, 85-year old Emmanuelle Riva and 81-year old Jean-Louis Trintignant.

The Cannes jury awarded 2nd place to Matteo Garrone’s Italian satire “Reality,” while Ken Loach’s whisky-tasting comedy “The Angels’ Share” won the third-place Jury Prize.

Rochelle Wiseman and Una Healey – the two girls from The Saturdays had fun with their shared hen night.

The pair were joined by their fellow bandmates Mollie King, Frankie Sandford and Vanessa White. Rochelle’s husband to be Marvin Humes from JLS was also on show with the help of some Marvin face masks and some specially designed nail stencils featuring his face that were brought along by guest Myleene Klass who has her own nail company.

The girls enjoyed themselves on a long night out in London with a meal at Malaysian restaurant Suka in Berners Street being followed by some serious partying at the Rose club in Orchard Street.

Although all the girls looked like they had a great night it was a short-lived affair compared to Rochelle’s fiance’s stag do as Marvin and fellow JLS bandmates celebrated his up coming wedding by having an 8 day trip to Las Vegas and Miami.

Una was making a good fist of the celebrating this weekend as she had already had her own hen night on Friday before the joint celebration with Rochelle the very next evening. The girls wore all the traditional hen night gear with feather boas, tiaras, veils, sashes and L plates whilst out partying on Saturday.

Una is of course marrying rugby star Ben Foden whose mother was left at home Saturday night looking after the couple’s 2-month old daughter Aoife.

All the girls seemed to have had a great night out with Mollie tweeting later: ”I just loved tonight!!! Two amazing hens – @ben_foden and @JLSOfficial Marv, you are very lucky boys indeed!”

Berenice Marlohe – the French actress has been talking at the Cannes Film Festival about her upcomig role in the new Bond film.

She believes that Skyfall will go down as one of the best if not the best Bond film of all-time.

33-year old Paris born Berenice has also been talking about co-star Daniel Craig. She said that prior to meeting Craig on the set of the Bond movie she believed the actor was going to be very boring. However this all changed when she met Craig who she describes as having a magical aura on set and she said that she finds the actor very sexy.

Berenice said:  ”when I got to meet him finally, he had such a beautiful humanity, very grounded, very nice personality, sense of humour, truly a great person. So this is what makes someone sexy or attractive.”

She also said of Craig: “He’s very, very funny, he’s like a clown.”

The actress is hoping to make her character Severine as complex as that of Daniel Craig’s James Bond in the movie. She says the character of Severine is part good and part bad and describes how she asked to be trained in shooting guns for the part as she felt that this would help in her being able to make the character a strong one.

Berenice has been enjoying the glamour of the film premieres in Cannes and has been seen wearing outfits from Emilio Pucci and Roberto Cavalli. With the Cavalli outfit she was wearing Swarovski crystals and it was recently announced that Berenice is the new advertising face for the brand.

Berenice has also been filming French movie Un Bonheur N’arrive Jamais Seul with another former Bond girl Sophie Marceau and this movie will be released in France on 27 June this year. There are no details yet of a UK release but this might change when people see more of Berenice in Skyfall.

Skyfall is due in UK cinemas this October.

Maxim Hot 100 for 2012 – this year’s list of the world’s most beautiful women has been topped by 26-year old Israeli model Bar Refaeli.

The model first reached a wide audience after she started dating actor Leo DiCaprio in 2005. The couple were together for almost 4 years before they split in June 2009.

Bar has been seen modelling for US lingerie chain Victoria’s Secret and has also featured as the cover model on the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue in 2009. The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue is often used as a barometer of “bikini body” fame and has previously featured Elle Macpherson, Christie Brinkley, Rachel Hunter, Tyra Banks, Heidi Klum, Beyonce and Kate Upton.

Bar was recently seen in a controversial black and white advert for the under.me underwear range. She appeared completely naked in the ad which features a range of underwear for men and women that she helped design.

This year’s Maxim Hot 100 featured Olivia Munn in 2nd place for the 2nd year running. The list was created by votes from readers this year, the first time this has happened. Editor Dan Bova explained that each year there were always rows with their readers over who had been left off the list so this year they thought they would hand it over to them to decide.

Here is the Top 20 from this year’s Maxim Hot 100

  1. Bar Refaeli
  2. Olivia Munn
  3. Mila Kunis
  4. Katy Perry
  5. Olivia Wilde
  6. Jennifer Lawrence

  11. Rosie Huntington-Whitley
  12. Kate Beckinsale

Eurovision Song Contest 2012 – tonight sees the final in Baku, Azerbaijan of the most camp singing competition that we know of.

The UK entry is 76-year old Engelbert Humperdinck who is confident that he can win the competition and has even looked to Elvis for some help. Engelbert will be wearing a thunderbolt pendant that The King gave him over 60 years ago. The pendant has the initials TCB standing for Taking Care of Business, Elvis’s favourite saying and has a value of around £2m.

As well as our own Engelbert there are a number of other acts to watch out for tonight. Best known to us here in the UK is the Irish entry Jedward. Little more needs to be said about the madcap Irish twins but if you want to read and see more click here.

From Russia comes Buranovskiye Babushki, a group of 6 singing grannies. Their song Party For Everybody is the first song to feature the little known Udmurt language.  Granny Natasha from the group has also taken another record as at almost 77-years old she is the contest’s oldest ever competitor.

The Serbian entry comes from Zeljko Joksimovic who came 2nd in 2004. He is trying hard to appeal to all nations as he has issued versions of his song Nije Ljubav Stvar in English, Russian, Spanish and Azeri.

The Swedish entry from Loreen is the runaway favourite to win tonight’s contest. The 28-year old’s song has already done well in her home country having topped the Swedish charts for 6 weeks and sold enough copies to get platinum status 5 times over. Sweden does of course have a strong Eurovision tradition with the country winning the contest in Brighton in 1974 with the song Waterloo by ABBA.

The Eurovision is in its 57th year and is expected to be watched live tonight by around 125 million people around the world.

Kylie Minogue – the Aussie pop princess has made a return to wearing short shorts in her latest video.

This time Kylie can be seen in a tiny pair of denim shorts in the video for her new single Timebomb. She may well have a portrait in the attic as she looks nothing like her 43 years of age.

As well as the denim shorts Kylie is showing off almost all of her enviable figure in an almost non-existent black cobweb style dress which is more holes than dress.

The single was launched by Kylie via her Twitter page and she launched the countdown to the release of the video this morning encouraging fans to tweet the hashtag #kylietimebomb to ‘release’ the audio.

The video was shot on Old Compton Street in Soho and shows Kylie walking through the streets before ending up in a club where she is seen dancing with a couple of male dancers.

The tiny see through black dress then makes its appearance as she is shown dancing again but this time in a warehouse. Fans will no doubt be reminded of her classic gold hotpants from “Spinning Around” and it has to be said that she looks no different despite her battle with cancer.

This recently came up in an interview she did with Paris Match where Kylie said: “A day does not go by without me thinking about it. There are days when I feel an incredible anger, others when I say that I was very lucky in my misfortune.

I always try to present an optimistic picture. At first, I look very open, but basically, I’m pretty reserved. I knew I was strong, I was fortunate to be surrounded by people who really loved me.

I feel like a cat, having had several lives. In my career as in my personal life, I made enough bad decisions to land me in deep water. Finally, I haven’t got out too badly.”

‘Kylie has had a busy week as she has also been seen at Cannes promoting her new movie Holy Motors at the film festival there. She turned heads there as well wearing a stunning long red dress with see though panels.

Keira Knightley – the 27-year old Pirates of the Caribbean actress has got engaged to her musician boyfriend.

She and James Righton, the keyboard player from Klaxons have been going out since early last year. The couple was introduced to each other by mutual friend the tv presenter and Vogue contributing editor  Alexa Chung who previously went out with Righton.

Although Keira’s spokesperson has confirmed the engagement it is unlikely that more will be heard directly from the famously private actress. In fact in the 15 months the couple have been going out there are very few photos of them together and Righton has not once accompanied Knightley to any film premieres.

Righton has achieved much success with Klaxons including winning the 2007 Mercury Prize for the band’s debut album Myths of the Near Future.

Knightley has of course been extremely successful with her movie roles and in 2008 Forbes rated her as the 2nd highest paid actress in Hollywood at that time having been said to have earned $32m from her film roles in the previous year. She was also the only non-US actress in the top 10 earners for that year.

Knightley is also a regular in FHM magazine’s 100 Sexiest Women in the World poll having come top of the list in 2006 the same year Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest was released.

Righton has been keeping himself busy whilst Keira has been filming as he and the rest of Klaxons are working on their 3rd studio album. The album, which has been recorded with James Murphy and The Chemical Brothers, is expected to be released later this year.

There is a further link between the couple as Knightley will soon be seen playing the title role in the new movie adaptation of Anna Karenina. This is directed by Joe Wright who previously worked with her on Atonement and also worked with The Chemical Brothers in the 1990′s.

Spaghetti Junction – the UK’s best-known section of road celebrates its 40th birthday today.

Spaghetti Junction is how most of us know what is actually the Gravelly Hill Interchange which connects the M6 at junction 6 with the A38(M) Aston Expressway into central Birmingham.

Its strangely complicated look results from the need to follow the line of the local canal and river network to enable the constructors to build a 6 lane carriageway and attached link roads through a built up area with the minimum disruption to buildings. Construction started in 1968 and it took 4 years to complete the junction.

Spaghetti Junction covers around 30 acres in total and it cost around £10m to build. It had 40k vehicles a day using it when it opened but these days the daily traffic through Spaghetti Junction is now around 210k vehicles.

It was voted the most well-known motorway sight in Britain in a 2007 RAC motorists survey. It has also found its way into the Oxford English Dictionary and has its own weather station.

The term Spaghetti Junction was termed by Birmingham Evening Mail journalist Roy Smith who thought that the interchange resembled spaghetti when viewed from above. Following the adoption of the name for the Gravelly Hill Interchange there are now a number of road systems around the world that are also known as Spaghetti Junction. So far there are 2 Australian, 6 Canadian, 1 German, 1 New Zealand, 1 South African, 24 US junctions as well as one more UK road system, the Worsley Braided Interchange between Manchester and Bolton, that are all known as Spaghetti Junction

Jennifer Lopez – the singer seemed keen to make an impression on American Idol’s finals night.

The 42-year old looked in great shape as she wore a low-cut crop top to sing her new single Goin’ In. She then followed this up with a performance of her previous single Follow The Leader, where she was joined by Wisin & Yandel.

She has recently said on the Ellen DeGeneres talk show that she is unsure whether she will appear on American Idol after this series. It seems that her workload might be too great to allow such a commitment any longer.

Fellow judge Steven Tyler is certainly keen to keep her on the show and said that he loves sitting next to Jennifer: ”She’s a sexy beast,” Tyler said.  ”I’m always flirting with her. It’s not a bad thing. It’s really a good thing. The best part of it all is that we been able to pick some good talent. Just look at this year.”

This year’s final featured Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez competing for the title with Phillips eventually coming out on top. The finalists had to perform 3 songs each on the night and Phillips got the chance to sing with Credence Clearwater Revival’s John Fogerty while Jessica took to the stage with Jennifer Holliday for her version of And I Am Telling You.

With J.Lo saying that she might not be a judge on the next series of American Idol there are already rumours about who might replace her on the panel with the name most mentioned so far being Cheryl Cole. If she does get the job then Cheryl may find J.Lo a hard act to follow in the US as she has been named by Forbes this year as the Most Powerful and Influential Celebrity in the World. She was also named the Most Beautiful Person by People last year.

If you are wanting to see J.Lo live in concert in the UK then there is only 1 opportunity this year with her O2 Arena concert on 22 October. Tickets for this show go on sale from tomorrow morning (25 May) at 9 am.

Jonathan Ive – the designer of many of Apple’s iconic products has today been knighted at Buckingham Palace.

Sir Jonathan is the senior vice president of industrial design at Apple and has worked for the company in California since 1992. It is Ive who is the man behind the design of the iPod, iPhone, iMac and iPad as well as a host of other products.

With the sales of Apple products so strong worldwide it would be hard to argue against Ive being the most influential designer in the world at present.

He had the total respect of the late Steve Jobs who set up Ive in the Apple hierarchy in such a way that he has full control of what he does and the only person above him is the CEO.

His first contact with Apple products was whilst he was at Newcastle Polythechnic (now Northumbria University) when he found that he could finally use a computer having previously been frustrated when trying to use a standard pc. He credits this as a turning point in his career when he realised that creativity could be brought to the world of computing.

He is a private man and due to the potential worth of new products very few Apple employees have ever been allowed inside his design studio at Apple’s offices in Cupertino near his home in San Francisco. The studio has tinted windows and is said to be full of all manner of design and manufacturing machinery to let the designer have full rein of his creativity.

Ive says he is humbled and honoured by the knighthood having been made a CBE in 2005. He says that his design knowledge comes to him courtesy of “a very British design education.”

In 2004 Ive was named as the “Most Influential Person on British Culture” by the BBC and in 2008 The Daily Telegraph described him as the “Most Influential Briton in America.”

Katherine Jenkins – the Welsh singer has narrowly failed in her bid to win Dancing With The Stars.

The show is the US version of our Strictly Come Dancing and Katherine has been right at the top of her game for the whole series.

The show has given Katherine a chance to get better known in the US and she has proved to be a popular competitor on the show. She has already mentioned that she would like to perform on a Broadway stage and from the reaction she has received she can expect to now get some offers from America.

Katherine managed to pick up perfect scores for her dancing during the final of the competition and just missed out on taking the title after American Football star Donald Driver picked up the most votes for his country music themed freestyle routine.

Katherine seems to have thrown her heart and soul into the dance competition after moving to the US temporarily following her break up with fiance Gethin Jones in December last year.

31-year old Katherine took to Twitter after the final to say: ’Being runner up on DWTS feels pretty amazing…Thanku to all who voted to put us 2nd! I never would have thought this possible at the start!’

Her professional dance partner Mark Ballas called the singer “an angel.”

It has just been announced that Katherine will be singing with opera star Jose Carreras at Preston Guild’s Proms In The Park this September. The concert is set for 07 September and tickets will go on sale next week.

Tokyo Skytree – the world’s tallest broadcasting tower has now opened up to the public.

The Japanese tower stands at 634m (2080ft) and as such has overtaken China’s Canton Tower (600m)  for the title of world’s tallest tower.

The needle-shaped structure has 2 observation decks at 350m and 450m which are reached by high-speed elevators.

The Skytree stands in the Shitamachi district of Tokyo and will be used by the Japanese national broadcaster NHK and a number of other media companies for transmissions from next year. It replaces Tokyo Tower (which looks a little like a white and orange Eiffel Tower) as the national broadcasting hub and will almost certainly also take its place as a tourist attraction. Tokyo Tower has been a feature of the Tokyo skyline since 1958 and has featured in many movies including several in the Godzilla franchise. It has also been used in kaiju movies as well as featuring in Japanese manga and anime.

The Tokyo Skytree has already had to prove the strength of its construction as Tokyo was hit by a serious earthquake in March 2011. The survival of the structure has been hailed as testament to Japan’s earthquake-resistant building technology.

Although Skytree stands twice the height of the Eiffel Tower it is still well behind Dubai’s Burj Khalifa which is 828m (2717ft) high and is officially the tallest structure in the world.

Skytree and the Burj Khalifa are in different categories as far as Guinness World Records is concerned as the Skytree is not a skyscraper as it is not designed for office or residential use.

Although it is extremely difficult to get tickets for the Skytree at present costs for visiting range from approx £3 for children up to £20 for adults. At the moment you can only get advance tickets via a travel agent or by booking online using a credit card issued in Japan.

Kelly Brook – just like the plot of Demi Moore‘s Indecent Proposal, Kelly has been offered €1m to sleep with someone.

Kelly was in Cannes to help promote Keith Lemon: The Film starring comic Leigh Francis when she was approached by a French businessman known as Frederic who offered her the huge sum of money for “just one night.” Kelly seemed a little bemused by this at first thinking it was a prank set up by Lemon to help promote his movie. When bodyguards quickly moved in to escort the businessman away Kelly moved on, looking a little shaken.

Kelly and Keith Lemon have been at the film festival to promote the new movie which Kelly joked she was persuaded to do because of “a dry spell.” She also said that “It was probably the most disgusting, offensive script I’ve ever read.” The pair were seen earlier this week larking about by the swimming pool at their hotel where Lemon drank water from one of Kelly’s red stilettos.

Keith Lemon: The Film, which was written by Leigh Francis together with director Paul Angunawela also stars Laura Aikman, David Hasselhoff and Verne Troyer. The plot centres around Lemon moving from Leeds to London to make his fortune and then after losing everything realising he was happier beofre and moving back home to Leeds. During the course of the movie Lemon also gets the chance to spend the night with Kelly’s character, a scene which Kelly is worried about her family seeing!

Busty Kelly has taken on a number of different roles during her career including presenting, reality tv shows and Strictly Come Dancing but is still best known for modelling swimwear and lingerie. She has appeared in many “Hottest Women” lists over the years and in 2005 topped the FHM Sexiest Women in the World list.

Keith Lemon: The Film is due for its UK release on 24 August this year.

Robin Gibb – it is sad to report that the Bees Gees singer and composer has lost his battle with cancer.

62-year old Robin had been unwell for some time and died in a Chelsea hospital last night with his wife, 2 sons and daughter at his bedside as they had been for the last few weeks. Robin’s brother Barry, now the only remaining brother, had recently returned to America. His twin brother Maurice died in 2003 after complications following an operation to correct an intestinal blockage and younger brother Andy, who was not part of the Bee Gees but a successful singer in his own right, died in 1988 from heart failure at the age of 30. Robin had found it particularly difficult to come to terms with the death of his twin in 2003, describing him as “part of the fabric of my life”.

Robin and his brothers sold over 200 million records and had many hots over a music career lasting more than half a century. As well as all the Bee Gees hit records the brothers were also responsible for many other hit records for artists such as Barbra Streisand, Frankie Valli, Celine Dion, Dionne Warwick and Diana Ross. These hits included records such as Heartbreaker, Chain Reaction, Grease and Woman In Love.

The music world has given many, many tributes over the few hours including this one from respected music journalist and DJ Paul Gambaccini:

“Everyone should be aware that the Bee Gees are second only to Lennon and McCartney as the most successful songwriting unit in British popular music.

“Their accomplishments have been monumental. Not only have they written their own number one hits, but they wrote huge hit records for Barbra Streisand, Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick, Celine Dion, Destiny’s Child, Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers, the list goes on and on.”

“He was one of the important figures in the history of British music – and I mean of all time, I don’t mean just the last few years or the rock era, I mean of all time.”

Billboard Music Awards – the evening proved to be another triumph for Adele who picked up 12 awards on the night.

She won Top Artist, Top Female Artist, Top Streaming Song and Top Album amongst others but was not there to collect her awards. She is really on a roll at the moment as she just won the Ivor Novello Songwriter of the Year Award last week.

Other winners on the night included Coldplay who picked up 4 awards including Top Rock Artist. Other non-British winners were Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber.

Bieber performed his new track Boyfriend accompanied by dancers dressed as clowns and neon geisha girls. He won the award for most social artist, thanks to his  22 million Twitter followers and 43 million Facebook fans, saying “the internet is where I got my start”.

Other musical highlights included Stevie Wonder performing 2 songs and receiving an Icon Award and John Legend and Jordin Sparks performing a tribute to Whitney Houston.

Amongst the non-musical highlights the top talking point of the evening was the appearance of Miley Cyrus in a  white jacket and probably wearing no more with it than a thong and a pair of zebra coloured heels. Her grown-up braless outfit certainly turned some heads.

Other fashion winners on the evening included Alicia Key who wore a Azzedine Alaia Couture gown. Amber Rose was clearly keen to make an impression as she almost came out of the top of her tight dress but could not match Miley or Alicia in the style stakes.
